The five captains of Barcelona have been selected for the 2024/25 season


Barcelona announced their five captains for the 2024/25 season on Friday. With the departure of Sergi Roberto, no academy player will wear the armband this term for the first time in a long time. The chosen ones are Ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha and Pedri.



The 2024/25 season has already started, but Barcelona still has some unfinished business. Among the various updates regarding reinforcements and registrations, the club had yet to announce their captains.

Marc-André ter Stegen was confirmed as the first captain, moving up from his previous position as second captain last year, especially following Sergi Roberto's departure. The remaining captains were decided by a vote during Friday's training session, and their selection was somewhat surprising.

In order, the five captains chosen are Ter Stegen, Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha, and Pedri. Notably, for the first time in a long while, there will be no academy player among the captains, a departure from the tradition that has been in place since Luis Enrique’s time.

Frenkie de Jong, who has faced significant criticism, particularly on social media, is the fourth captain. Despite his future being uncertain and currently recovering from an injury, he has been included in the leadership group.
